A Semi-Automatic Construction Method of Concept Map Based on Dialog Contents

“Concept map” has been presented to know the state of learner’s understanding more easily and rapidly than an exam like an achievement test in pedagogical literature. Teacher and learners have usually been constructing the concept map on work with hands, and the work itself might be more complex and difficult. Therefore, we have presented a method to construct semi-automatically “semi-concept map”, which might be developed to “Concept map” through the edit of teacher and learners. In addition, we have constructed a prototype system, which consists of viewer and editor of the concept map to support building up knowledge in collaborative learning between teacher and learners or among learners. In this paper, first, we formalize the method to semi-automatically construct the concept map, and second, we explain an example of learning process using the system based on dialog contents. Finally, we discuss how to evaluate whether the learning using the system is more effective than the learning using usual concept map, and the possibility that the system can use not only for summative evaluation like an achievement test but also for formative evaluation to support knowledge building of learners.
